Type Approval

Transport Enterprise is fully VCA and Whole Vehicle Type Certified.

whole vehicle type approval

What is whole vehicle type approvel, who is affected by these changes and what will it mean for customers?

European Community Whole Vehicle Type Approval (ECWVTA) is a common process for approving new goods, passenger vehicles and trailers. Once an initial ‘type’ of vehicle is examined and the production arrangements are assessed as meeting Conformity of Production requirements, more vehicles of this type can be manufactured and sold without the need for further inspections and testing.

The aim of whole vehicle type approval is to make sure that new goods and passenger vehicles are safer and have a lower impact on the environment, without there being the need to inspect and test every single one.

Who will it affect?

It will affect all businesses involved in the manufacture, conversion, build, import or sale of new goods and passenger vehicles and will include ancillary equipment suppliers such as those who build cranes or tail lifts.

All new vehicles have to be built to an approved standard before they can be sold or used on the road in any EU member state.

The dead line date for all categories of vehicles to meet Type approval legislation is 29th October 2014. NO APPROVAL NO SALE

Our commitment

As an independent bodybuilder Transport Enterprises is committed to becoming one of the country’s forerunners when it comes to approval status. The company has been approved on 04 CentreTri Axle Trailers since shortly following the implementation of the legislation and has recently applied for and achieved an extension to cover tandem drawbar applications. In order to obtain this approval Transport Enterprises has forged a strong working relationship with the “VCA” (Vehicle Certification Agency) and all chassis manufacturers including Renault, Mercedes and Volvo.

Along with the extension to our approval we have been, we believe to be the first independent bodybuilder in the UK to successfully achieve completed vehicle approval on the new Mercedes Actros chassis, and are currently looking to extend further into not only the Mercedes range but other manufacturers.

First Mercedes Actros Approval for Transport Enterprises.

We believe Transport Enterprises to be the first independent bodybuilder in the UK to successfully achieve completed vehicle approval on the new Mercedes Actros.

The vehicle was commissioned by a local hire company, the leading contract hire and leasing company.

Running on BPW axles and incorporating a WABCO braking system, the trailer approval was completed has an extension to Transport Enterprises already existing approval to include Tandem Drawbar applications. The overall approval is constructed of several individual approvals that cover all of the required regulations including Lighting, spray suppression, lateral and rear protection along with coupling and statutory plates.

The Mercedes Actros received a completely new approval and also had to meet the criteria set by the regulations. The inspection was carried out by the VCA and approval took less than a week to be completed.

The body work boasts a radius front and roofline flowing smoothly in line with the Actros cab. Centrally roof mounted cargo control and non-slip flooring offer excellent load control with the anodise aluminium and galvanised sub frame offering the ultimate in weather protection.

The overall combination has an impressive loadable deck area of over 35 square meters and is illuminated by LED lighting operated from the cab. External LED lighting and conspicuity markings finish and frame the striking Red and Blue colours chosen by the customer.
